Oh....The Viking and the Celt made it official. They are now officially, legally and all those things a couple. What a day that was, Sazerac(s) and other libations flowed, stories were told, laughter was had and even a sea plane made an appearance. WOW!
We have had death in our family, sadness, cancer, despair some employment changes, moved across country and with all of that, we come out stronger and more committed than ever to do what we love to do the most.....find the best Sazerac ever.
The Viking will lay claim to that for now, he makes the best, at least in his castle. The pandemic gave us some time to reflect on our search, where to go next and, to perfect the Viking's Sazerac.
We traveled to a place called Jake's Famous Crawfish https://www.jakesfamous.com/ in Portland, Oregon. That's right all the way out on the west coast. Let's start with the food, in the words of the Viking, "OMG, I think I have died and gone to Valhalla." They feature food of the south, most notably, a spicy New Orleans style. The Viking is always in the mood for some good Jake's Famous Étouffée. The spice, the crawfish, the...everything is so good. They also have some good PNW goodies like Dungeness crab among a whole menu of great food.
It is in the old style, servers in white coats, and the atmosphere is formal without being stuffy. By the way, this is the Pacific Northwest where formal is a plaid button down shirt and some version of pants from places like REI or one of the many "climbing" stores so basically, show up as you are, sit down and enjoy a fantastic meal.
Ok, the Sazerac from Jake's Famous Crawfish was a unanimous 4.5 Viking Hammers out of 5. It was a Rye whiskey version, strong but not too pungent with the alcohol, sweet on the front of the tongue and spicy on the back. The lemon twist on the rim made the drink perfect. Just a hint of absinthe rinse to round out the whole thing. Close to perfection. We have and will be back again and again.
Take care friends. Many more adventures to come.
